Graduate Assistantships in Soil Science

Graduate Research Assistantships

Soil Science MS and PhD students are typically supported through grants or contracts from their Major Advisor. We strive to provide competitive stipends that permit students to live in Raleigh while pursuing their degree.

Graduate Research Assistantships are limited to 2 years for the Master of Science degree, 3 years for the Doctor of Philosophy degree for students with a previous Master’s, and 4 years for the Doctor of Philosophy degree for students who enter the Doctoral program from the Baccalaureate degree. The time limitation begins with initiation of the graduate program. The eligibility requirement for maintaining a research assistantship is a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or greater, which is the same as the eligibility for graduation.

Graduate Teaching Assistantships

We do not provide Graduate Teaching Assistantships in the Soil Science Graduate Program. However, we do require that all MS and PhD students teach as part of the degree program.
